After completing my Degree in Computer Science at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), I continued my academic training with a Master’s Degree in Systems and Control Engineering at the National University of Distance Education (UNED). In 2021, I enrolled in the doctoral program in Advanced Information Technologies at UCLM.
My Undergraduate Final Project (TFG) and my Master’s Final Project (TFM) were focused on the development of sensorized insoles, a type of wearable device. These projects laid the foundation for my doctoral thesis, where I am expanding this line of research into a more general approach. The doctoral thesis focuses on exploring aspects related to human health through the use of non-invasive sensors embedded in wearable devices. The goal is to adopt a ‘long-term’ monitoring approach, which allows for the continuous collection of psychomotor parameter data and vital signs.
Much of the effort is focused on the design, development, and validation of wearable devices, as well as on the study of suitable processing techniques for handling the acquired time series data. From these, quantitative indicators are constructed with potential use in the fields of preventive medicine, medical rehabilitation, and the general physiological state of the patient.
The technological and research challenges addressed in the thesis include i) the integration of embedded sensors and their low-level hardware communication; ii) wireless communication protocols and synchronization between different wearables that make up the WBSN; and iii) computational challenges at different levels, from data processing on the wearable itself to the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques with higher computational cost on Cloud servers.
